I recently purchased 2012 F-250 XL 4x4 6.7L with integrated brake controller installed. I tested it today with volt meter and there is no brake output, the module is plugged in. The previous owner did tow small loads with the truck but doesn't appear the brake controller was working. Asked around and it sounds like I may need to go to dealer?? When stepping through the Message Center there is no display item for TBC Gain as it states in he manual. What's the best option for getting this working?
The trailer brake controller has to "sense" a trailer is hooked up via the 7 pin connector. From my understanding, a meter will not test it properly. Hook a trailer up via the 7 pin and see if it shows a trailer connected and then manually test the brakes via the manual TBC controls.
I tested with the trailer connected as well and didn't have any trailer brakes using the brake or manual actuator. The TBC does not show up in my control center at all...
Do you know if the TBC is original with the truck, or if the PO added it? If they added it, I think that the dealer has to flash the truck to recognize it (or can probably do it with Forscan)
i think too that there might be two plugs into the tbc. I had to unplug the oem tbc in my 2006 F 350 because I was getting faults, and I seem to recall two plugs in it.
You need to check your IPC configuration. If it was an add on or not in the display, then the IPC needs to configured to display the Trailer info so you can set the gain and the TBC will operate.
I took the truck to Benson/Dunn Ford in NC... great folks!! It turns out the controller was not configured even though it appears to be original. An hours labor and now it is working great! I like this controller better than the aftermarket approach and it does have sway control included.
