Mahle Piston Ring Question - Color Pattern and Orientation w/ pic

I installed the piston rings today and could not find any information on my questions below -
  • Do the colors that are painted on the rings mean anything? I tried to line up the oil spring and oil spring retainer since they are both painted white? Not sure if that's correct?
  • Top ring is painted white and also red, should that line up with the oil retaining ring?
  • I have always read a lot of different opinions on orientation of the rings when installing. Does the 7.3 have a specific orientation I should follow?

good info - so look like installed the oil ring correctly and then just do something like 12 o'clock, 4 o'clock, and 8 o'clock for the orientation?

Not as though I am an expert, but that's the way I do all of mine.

I've always done 120° apart on the gaps and made sure no gaps were in line with the wrist pin.
