power steering line

Ok it has been forever since I have been on here, but I just totaled my 2019 so it is back to the early 99 until I can get it replace. I have a power steering line leaking where it goes into the top of the steering box. The hose goes up to the driver side of the brake reservoir. It looks like a compression connection to me on top of the gear box but just wanted to make sure that there was no o ring needed there. I did a search for the hose and it looks like it comes with an o ring but not sure which end it goes on.
Thank you for any help.

Steering box is flare side and hydroboost is o ring side.

There is an O ring on it but it comes with the hose, the top end has some kind of nylon O ring, it comes with too, at least it did when I bought mine. I bought OEM and that is not a cheap hose. I pulled the fender liner, it gives good access to it. I also just cut the tubing there and used a socket on it. Both of them came apart pretty easy for me. While you're at it you should look at the other line there that goes down to the cooler, if one is rusted through the other one should be too. Man those things are pricey.

Is this the pressure hose? Is there a reason one should stay away from the $35 replacement from NAPA? I've been contemplating doing preventative maintenance on mine and wonder if buying the Motorcraft part is worth it.

I don't know for certain but the one from the brake reservoir to the steering box looks like a pressure hose as it has threaded fittings on each end. The hose from the steering box to the cooler is just clamped onto the cooler.

Also, make sure you get the old O ring(s) out of the steering box. If they're not stuck to the line when you pull it out they're still in the hole.

You guys are mis-informing the OP. He has a leak at the steering box, not the line from steering PUMP to Hydroboost

I don't know who you're referring to but I'm spot on with my information. He's referring to the hose that runs from the hydroboost or the master cylinder or whatever that is up top down to the steering box. It has threaded fittings on each end. If it was not a pressure hose I would expect it to just be clamped but that part is irrelevant.

Yes sir that is the one I am talking about. I found one locally it did come with an oring for the gear box end. Now I just have to see if there is one in the box or if it did not get put back on when the box was changed last. Spline spindle snaped off of my redhead on the way to the airport, and I had it fixed while I was out of town so who know what the left out.
I am glad to see that nothing has changed here. I have had 3 new trucks in the last 5-6 years and the old 99 just doesn't get driven that much anymore, but it is about to make me some money for a few weeks while I wait on the insurance, and find another new one

3 and a half months old

That hurts, truck, trailer and load (unless the load was scrap to start with).

So, any strong opinions with using an $80+ Motorcraft line vs whoever makes the part for NAPA for $35? I don't mind paying for quality but I doubt Ford actually makes this hose. I had a '96 and had the hose blow out and it left me stranded. I want to replace the hose on my e99 here in the driveway. I appreciate any feedback.

I would think the napa line would be just fine and would use it. Others my have a different opinion.

So what happened to the truck and trailer. That's painful just to look at.

The Motorcraft is probably just a rip off would be my guess. I wouldn't hesitate to use a Napa replacement for something like that.
