manual transmision identification

I am about to do an engine (5.8L) swap from a 1992 f250 (Automatic) to a 1989 (5.0L) f250 (manual.) This is going to be a plow truck for a small farm. I know it has a 5speed od. How do identify if it is a Mazda transmission, and if it is, will it bolt up and work for this application.
Thanks, any input is appreciated.

Yes it will. The 300, 302 and 351W have the same bell housing pattern. Does it have a “granny” first gear?

I don't know for sure. I don't have a lot of information on the 88. I do have a good E4OD, but was thinking with the electronic part of the tranny, this would be more difficult.
We will just use the truck for occasional plowing and running to the dump.

Mazda: Horizontal/vertical grid ribbing:
M5OD Transmission Sale | M5R2, M5ODR2, Bronco, F150, F250

ZF: Diagonal ribbing:

https://claz.org/classifieds?q=zf+5+speed

Bring the 5.8 and automatic over, along with controller and harness. Serving suggestion.

Unless you are going to put a carb on that 5.8 you have to transplant the ECU and harness anyway.

Thanks, Its the Mazda trans. I will have to rethink my plans. Would it be easier to buy an Automatic floor shift kit or change steering columns?

IMO floor shifter. You already have hole in the floor. It's cables anyway,

Given the above end goal I think you will be fine with keeping the Mazda transmission. I highly suggest sourcing the correct 5.8L and manual transmission PCM.

Would the PCM for the 1988 5.0L work with the 5.8L? The 5.0 L was fuel injected. I kind of like the idea of having a Manual, but I don't want problems down the road.

Some will say it worked fine for them, others not so much. Knowing a computer designed for a smaller cubic inch motor may lead to a lean condition I would suggest getting the correct one for your engine/transmission. You may be able to keep the 5.8L computer happy by using the MLPS set to neutral then tie wrap it away from everything. I do not think no connection to the solenoid pack would trigger a Check Engine Light (CEL), but it will fail the KOEO tests/CM display. Not a deal breaker, but a minor annoyance.
