manual to automatic swap
I have an f250 with a 460 with a 5 speed manual. Is it possible to swap it for an automatic from a f150 with a 303? If not, what tranny would fit the 460?

Are you having problems with the ZF 5 speed? i think you mean a 302, and no, it will not be strong enough. You are going to need a new PCM module to start, an E4OD tranny, a donor truck would be great. Probably need a different dash setup, might need to get a different wiring harness. I would stick with the 5 speed. They are a strong transmission.

I think the wiring harness can be kept. From my past wiring harness escapades, the harness I was messing with had both tranny realted plugs attached. Manual had the plug for the neutral safety switch and the auto tranny plug for the gear indicator on the dash. Little more than that...so why would Ford make a new harness for just that?
Check with the Helms to be sure. Allegedly not all makes share that thought, but since the HD trucks had the manual and slushie for options....I would think the plugs are there and the ECU needs swapping.
