My 2000 did not come with a keypad entry. I got one from a friend years ago and installed it on my truck. It was the bees knees. The battery died and I replaced it and now over 7 years of use one of the numbers tore off and the rain shorted it out.
I ordered another one and followed the steps for install by cycling the key until you here the locks lock and unlock, then press 7/8 & 9/0 together to program the new one. Same way you do a new fob. When you do that you should hear the locks lock and unlock but I got nothing. I spent about an hour with it and gave up.
Any thing helps.
If they are, maybe the old pad actually still worked but the receiver somewhere on the truck is the part that died (just wondering; no actual knowledge of how it works)

Key pad lights up so I’m sure it’s working. All my fobs lock and unlock the doors.
There was a transmitter setting 1 & 2 on the key pad which I also changed “ tried both” and still nothing
