Well, the hydroassist is to fix the SD hard steering issue. Doesn't have tractor tires, but sure feels like it LOL.
Seriously though, I don't see a ram assist as being a requirement, but it sure is nice to have... Wait a second here... Didn't I buy a T4 kit and an SXE even though it was not a requirement, but sure is nice to have...
I will go with a BlueTop or WTO "regular" gear when my AutoZoo breaks again...

LMAO Sous.... exactly! How's the Vatozone doing? I know I could do that, but I am thinking the next 300,000 miles and one finger steering.

‘Byron, why not let your wife drive the truck and you can drive the KIA? If she doesn’t complain about the “hard steering”, then I guess we know where the problem is…
Seriously, assist will make a huge difference! When I put it on my jeep, no matter how much pressure was on the front axle I could always turn the wheels effortlessly.

Hahaha! Yeah, you may be right. Dang that Kia sure drives nice
I think it's worth the 700 bucks to have a newer feeling truck since he is gonna be around for awhile.....even though my neighbor came over to have a beer and was like "9500 right now" all proud like he has clout or something. I just laughed. I told him it was too much truck for him.

What are you asking for it? You won’t be disappointed with the assistant...

I put in an AutoZoo gear when the OEM had a catastrophic failure just as I was parking the truck at a campground. AllAboutMPG was nice enough to drive up and help me swap it out. It was the 2 bolt diamond top gear, so 225,000 miles is honorable.
Almost immediately the AutoZoo gear started leaking from the pitman arm shaft seal. I got another one for free on lifetime warranty and it has been good for almost 2 years now.
If this one goes and I have the time, I will get a BlueTop or WTO regular gear rebuild.
Sometimes we have to go against the quality or nothing saying to get back on the road quickly.

‘IF you go the WTO route, I’d recommend at least having the box ported then you have the option down the road to add the assist without removing the box again.
My steering always felt heavy. When I replaced my original box I ended up getting an A1 Cardone unit. (Not) surprisingly it did not last as long as the original box. I replaced that box with a Blue-Top and that made a world of difference. My steering felt quite a bit lighter and I was very pleased with it. A lot less effort to turn the wheel but still felt very solid.

Just my .02
Wait, so you so the new box but not a new pump or assist? That would be great if that's all it takes.
Just install a new power steering pump dude, 98% of the time hard steering is caused by a weak pump, the hard steering is even more pronounced with foot on brakes while on idle trying to turn the steering wheel. The other % is binding ball joints (rare) or a bad steering box or over adjusted SB.

I totally agree with you but *ouch* don't abuse the equipment fam! Turn while rolling and wear and tear is nil.

I had replaced the pump years before. That did help (and stopped the drops on the ground ) but the steering was still heavy. Replacing my A1 Cardone with a Blue-Top (no assist) made a noticeable difference on my truck.
Byron, there's a 1999 F350 CCLB 6-speed in Salem, OR on craigslist that might meet your needs. 251K on the clock and appears to have been cared for well, with several nice upgrades. If I was able to pull the trigger, I think that one would be it. I can't tell if it's an early or late 99. Might be an early, because he put a 17 degree HPOP from Terminator Engineering in it. Green/Tan, just like your's.
I certainly get staying with what you have, what you know at this point. I just thought of your situation when I found this.
Might be a late 99 judging by the powerstroke badges being on the door and not the fenders.
Edit: looks to be an e99 after seing the engine close up in one of the pics.
