It's a v6 not sure what size 4.0 maybe ? Today I noticed a little smoke coming out of the grill when I parked it. Started it back up and left, when I turned the corner I just came around I saw a thin stream of oil on the road. I knew It came from my truck because I saw it on the road where I stopped and backed in too. So I headed for home and noticed in a short while there was smoke in the rear view mirror but not bad enough to make me pull over. I was hoping to make it thinking it was power steering fluid because the belt has been making noise for a while and I've had trouble with it before. I nearly made it when the oil light came on and it started making noise. Got it towed back but not before getn into it with the owner of the dairy isle, what a bitch, she told me to get out of the parking lot, can anyone believe that ? Told her I couldn't and then all hell broke loose, we got into a big too doo and I wasn't backing down. Cops got called to cool it all down, what a day ! I haven't messed with it yet but it's a safe bet the engine oil is all gone. Any ideas where it could of been leaking from ? I can't imagine there could be a external oil line anywhere ? It's got 80k on it. If anyone can point me in the right direction I sure would appreciate it.

The time to have thought about this, to lift the hood and look for the source of the problem, assess the severity of it, get help with this if needed, was when the first indication of trouble was noticed, not after purposely driving it knowing it had an oil leak, running it out of oil and wiping out an engine. Tow bills are so much cheaper than new engines but look at the bright side, knowing that many people have had vehicle fires that started with an oil leak, tranny fluid leak or a power steering fluid leak, at least it only needs an engine, that's good news in itself!
Problem found and I couldn't believe it. I won't use Motor Craft filters anymore. I last changed the oil in November and as always I put a Motor Craft filter on. A quick look and I knew it was coming from the filter, I reached in and to my surprise it was still tight. I looked around and I found it's old oil. Put some in and started it. Sure enough it was leaking right out from the filter. I took it off expecting to find a bad seal but found the filter was rusted out and it had a pin hole in it. I have never seen that happen before. The paint was still on it but it was swelled up in places with rust under it. I've got to be the first to ever have a oil filter rot out let alone in 9 months. I just don't know how that could happen, rusted from the inside out. The engine seems ok.
