I have a 1977 Ford Ranger 4x4 with a major oil leak seeming to be coming from the oil filter area. I've changed oit the filter, but still oil is sheeting all over my undercarrage. Would anyone happen to have an idea of where this oil might be coming from?
make sure it's not the pwr steering hoses leaking. If not then the mech fuel pump could also be leaking CC oil if the seal is busted, those 2 thing are close to the oil filter in location on a 351m.
I am sure it is engine oil, was black, and now its the nice clean stuff I put in it.. I can not see a spray, but it does run down from what looks to be the top of the oil filter ... I checked the PS lines as ell a fuel pump, they look fine..
.............Here is what happened to me .....I screwed a new FL-1A onto the block thinking ALL was OK . Started the engine , looked under the truck and HOT Damn there was oil all Over . Turned off motor , drank 3 beers , poured floor sweep on spill and let it soak over night . Next day cleanup spill , unscrew filter and I found that the rubber seal on the filter had come loose from it's appointed position and got kinked just enough to allow oil to squirt every where . I had probably OVER tightened the filter as well . So , make sure the seal is secured to the filter and DoNot over tighten it . sk
Same thing happoning to me, exact same thing, except, oil is being ejected rapidly, at about 60psi... After A oil refill, my oil gague read "0" psi, during inital oil loss, I had pressure, So I am thinking I might have had a hose pull out or a bad oil sending unit.. Ill let you know when it is fixed, please fill us in guys, Im not happy having to get my wife to drive me everywhere!
I have had where the OLD oil filter gasket came off the old filter and was still on where the oil filter screws on. Put on new filter boy did that leak. BOY what a woops.
And the answer Is .......................... A pin hole in the side of the fuel up squirting oil right on to the oil filter .. Found it after installing another oil filter did not fix the problem I noticed a majority of the oil running down a fuel line. So I pulled the stearing pump off so I could get a clear view to the top of the oild filter and the fuel pump, and wala, at about 1500 rpm it started squirting oil.
Thanks for all the ideas folks, it really did help.

ding ding ding winner! BTW with a bad fuel pump there's a good chance that fuel was getting into the oil so do an oil change ASAP.
