2004 Explorer dies while driving.

My daughter's 04 And Explorer has died while driving on the road. I've noticed that the ignition key switch will shut off the engine while still in the run position. I'm thinking I need to replace the ignition switch but I don't know if it will mess up the programming on the ignition key? Also I guess the switch is located right behind the key lock cylinder since I don't see it down on the column like my older Ford's.

As long as you don't damage the PATS antenna, which is around the key cylinder switch, when replacing the ignition switch, the immobilizer should not be impacted.

I think you're correct regarding the location of the switch, although I never needed to take the steering column apart on either of the 2004's I previously owned so I'm not positive.
