I'm working on a 1995 Explorer for a friend. Apparently the problem is that when he turns the key on he looses power. This is intermetant and usually happens after sitting throughout the night. He informed me that if he turns the steering wheel or hits the brake he can then get power when he turns the key.
My guess is that it is an ignition switch. I have never worked on these so I wanted some of your opinions. Is the switch the same as trucks where the key pushes an actuator which runs down the colum to the switch or is the switch somewhere else? What is the easiest way to install this!
Hi Brett, well personally I have not done a switch on an Explorer yet but I do own one, and yes Im sure the switch is set up like the usual vehicle with the actuator to the column. You might want to disconnect the battery when you do it. There is the yellow airbag wire running through there and I would hate to see an accident.
