This is basically the same way I ended up this one. I went to retrieve a Hudson a neighbor wanted to buy. The Hudson seller had a huge fleet of cars spread out all over Peoria Illinois. In multiple warehouses and properties. This '37 Buick was in the same property as the Hudson. I was looking over the Buick and my neighbor asked the seller, "How much for the Buick?", "$550" was the answer. My neighbor started egging me on about buying it. I told him I didn't have $550. He said he had it in his pocket. I said, "Well, if you have a good, cheap divorce lawyer in the other pocket I might think about it."" The seller took us to all of his stashes and I took pictures of everything he had. When I got home I uploaded the images onto my computer and called my wife into the room to show her the cars I saw, honestly not intending one trying to sell her on any. When the pictures of the Buick popped up she said I should have bought that one. I told her to "Shut up, you know you don't like anything I'd bring home." She again started nagging me about why I didn't want to car. Well, the next weekend I went back down and bought the car.

4-5 years later, and 5 parts cars later the project has come to a stall and has been sitting in it's present condition in my garage. I replaced at least 40% of the metal, in a second body if found. Found a good engine and transmission and many other parts.

Always seems disappointing when you find a gem sitting wasting away and the owner doesn't want to sell. I know, I know, it's their vehicle and they can do what they want with it but it's still a shame to see it just sit there. I've seen way too many, "I'm going to fix it someday" project sit for years. The sad think is many I found out later went off to the scrap yard.

Just to add to the original subject of the post. I got my panel, or at least one of them, because of what my wife did. She drives school bus and when she first started, and a our kids were little, the bus drivers would have a little party at a driver's house. One was a pool party and while the kids splashed around the hens started clucking about their husbands and the problems they cause. One turned to my wife and asked about me. She replied, "I have my husband under my thumb.", making the swooshing movement on the table. The thing is she came home and told me all this. At about this time I found a couple of '48-50 panels up north about two hours away. This was a Wednesday when she told me this. I called the sellers of the panels and made arrangements to see them and went the following Saturday and bought them. She doesn't have me under thumb.

That's what's happening with a 40 Ford pickup I'd like to get, he as much told me the day he said he'd sell it to me that he'll never get around to restoring it himself because of all the projects he has going, but the next day he phoned me and said he couldn't part with it and was going to restore it. He bought it 20 years ago from a guy who had started it as a project 20 years before that..

Come on, she just said that so you'd run out and get those panels. Nice try trying to fool us guys...

At the time she came home with her pool party story she didn't know I was looking at panel trucks. I made the decision to buy the truck within five minutes of her telling me the story. Believe me, my wife is the farthest from supporting my old vehicle hobby. Thats why I went to get the Buick when she stsrted mouthing off about how could I pass it up. I really didn't want it but when I saw a chance to buy old iron with the least big of encouragement I'll jump at it.

It was my wife's idea about this 40 Ford pickup, we were over at a friends and she was leafing through a magazine and said hey I really like this truck and my friend said there is one here in town and it was for sale a number of years ago and he'd likely still sell it. We talked with the guy, he's seen my trucks and knows I'd finish it and said he had no problem selling it to me until he woke up the next morning...lol
Now I'm waiting on a guy that has a 56 Mercury M350 that's been sitting in his field for 50 years to get back to me..

When i brought the 52 f6 home as a parts truck for the 51 f1 my wife talked me into keeping it intact and restore so i blame her for the F6. I named it Joesephine and i remind her that its her truck ..
Now if i could just finish the dang thing!

Even though that panel wasn't on my radar I was open to the possibility and even entertained the idea of doing a build on it. I really like the look of the panels so I'll be staying in contact with the owner of this one because maybe, just maybe all he needs is to think on it awhile.

Everything is for sale, flash enough 100s at them ... the only question is how much.
