Front end hit while parked, cause additional damage?
Hoping someone may be able to shed some light here.
My truck (2009 SuperCrew 4x4) was hit in a parking lot about a week ago. Another driver reversed into me while backing out of a spot. I wasn't in the truck at the time. The damage was pretty minor - she cracked the black moulding beside the license plate and rubbed off some paint.
I took it to the shop to get a quick diagnostic done and make sure that it was as minor as it looked. They seemingly confirmed this for me. So all good, right?
Last night, and then again this morning, I've heard/felt an intermittent scrapping sound. Comes on regardless of speed (though to be fair I don't go beyond 45 mph on my way to work). It sounds/feels different than the IWE issue, which I've experienced before and had addressed. Sounds a bit more aggressive, but not as consistent.
I checked all the wheel wells quickly to see if anything was caught, and will get underneath it later this evening to check there as well (heard that the heat shield can sometimes cause a similar noise). Could be completely coincidental and unrelated, but I'm wondering if any additional damage could have been caused to internal parts, away from the immediate impact area, by the cross pressure that was applied to the front end while the vehicle was in park (not sure if there's a fancier term / just mean pressure applied side-to-side across the bumper rather than head-on).
Any thoughts on this would be very appreciated. Thanks!
Aside from needing an alignment, there were no mechanical parts that needed to be replaced, only cosmetic. Every accident is different, however but these trucks can take some force and still come back kicking.
I did have some occasional "creaking" when going over large bumps, shop checked body mounts, etc and things came back good. Only happened a hand few of times after that.
