I have the engine out of my truck right now and there is fluid in the bellhousing from the transmission. It's been leaking for some time now but it's hard to tell where. I have a new input shaft/torque converter seal, a new trans pump oring, and a trans pump gasket. I figured while I can sit on the cross member and work I might as well.
My question is, if I take out the pump am I going to regret it? How easy is it to get back in?
I have never had the pump out. I do know if the engine is out for any period of time, the torque converter seal should be replaced, even if it's fairly new. It should be replaced right before the engine goes back in place. Without the engine supporting the torque converter, it lays on the seal and can deform it and can cause it to leak.
