Engine problems

So I see I'm not the only one having red exhaust manifold. I don't have cats in my exhaust. My problem started last wk. It started running sluggish wouldn't let go faster I had to baby it hm. Then it died. I changed my upper and lower intake manifold frm original 91 & put a 92 on it.used the injectors that were in that 92 I got. Now my exhaust manifold on right side is glowing Orange not bad but you can see it. And it still running sluggish. What do you think?

Sluggish performance and red hot exhaust sounds like an ignition timing issue. Or timing in general I suppose, which could be injector timing, cam timing, etc. But traditionally it would be ignition timing.
Was it running fine and normal before it went all sluggish on you? Was it right after the work you described was done, or on some other timeline?
And I suppose I could dig deeper, but what vehicle and engine is this? I see references to '91 and '92, but what exactly are we talking here? A 5.0? 5.8? 4.9? A 2-wheel drive or four? Standard cab, Super-Cab or Crew-Cab?
Sounds like a V8, since you said upper and lower, but what prompted the change and what is the difference between the two? And were the injectors a different size/style than the earlier ones?

Not that some of those things will be pertinent here of course, but it's nice to know anyway just in case something clicks in a memory that might help us diagnose the issue.
If the injectors are too big or too small and the computer is not expecting them, maybe it's trying to run lean/rich and doesn't know why.

If a V8 and the particular year uses a TFI module, and the something is telling the module that it's in cold-mode and limiting overall ignition timing it could cause the hot exhaust. Too much fuel being left in the exhaust could do it too. Not sure an overly lean condition could do that, but I suppose it's possible. More likely late burning and incomplete burning letting some of the burning go on in the exhaust.

Anyway, I'm just spitballing here. Someone with more experience might know. But giving some of that extra info might help.

Good luck.

Paul

Good info above. Retarded ignition timing is a potential cause. Lean condition as well, or perhaps combination of those.

You R&R'd the distributor right? Ignition timing is way off, sounds like. It is amazing how fast manifolds can start glowing. Fuel is burning in the exhaust system instead of the cylinders where it belongs.

Its a 91 f150 5.0L supercab it was running fine 1/2 way hm. Then started running bad I was wanting to change the intake anyway I thought this would fix my problem. But I drove it last night & still running bad this is when I saw the exhaust glowing.the difference is pcv location. As far as I now injectors are same they are the same engine size just one year newer. It's 2wd

check for codes, even if check engine light isn't on, still have, KOEO- CM(constant memory) codes, and KOER codes
