I used a 1500 lumen flashlight in total darkness and didn't see any cracks. I filled it to the top with water and let it sit overnight and it didn't lose any.

Granted, no pressure is being applied. Outside of taking it to work and performing a dye penetrant inspection that is all I have done and found nothing.

I have always torqued the cap to spec but I admit the torque is rather low as after all, it is a plastic cap. Oil on the O-ring always. I believe that somehow the plastic fingers let go in the final or next to final revolution of the cap. And with my luck that makes perfect sense.

I could be wrong but I’m guessing the issue (besides the oil filter stem breaking) was the oil leaking from the cap, especially since you mentioned the underside of the hood being coated. And since that’s what you replaced and the oil doesn’t seem to be leaking anymore...

I hope you are right. I have only driven it around in the yard so far. No highway tests yet.

Only thing is it takes 4-5 times as long for the truck to start now. Maybe the sensor will fix that issue. I plan to change it Friday.

The sensor won't fix the issue.

IMO you need to get it on the highway and work the air out of the system.

Update. I have not received the new oil pressure sensor yet.

However, I did clean everything again, especially that area.

Started it up, let it get to temp, and had my son rev the engine then hold it at 2K for a minute. Zero leaks from the sensor.

Crawled underneath, two different sizes of inspection mirrors, 1500 lumen flashlight. Can't find a thing.

I will try to dye pen check the cap tomorrow. With a broken stalk would it over pressurize the housing causing the cap to fail? Or blow by the O-ring?

It did seem to start better, lending to the air theory.

Thanks again to all for their input.

Maybe an aside, but I find 13-14 quarts good for my engine, 15 liters is way too much for it.

I think he mentioned 15 quarts, not liters. Although I put in 14 quarts at oil changes, 15 quarts isn’t excessive. 15 LITERS, however, may indeed be a bit much...that’s the better part of 4 gallons 😳

You're right, once I start writing I can't go back to the post and check. Still shouldn't cause leak, but not good to overfill. halfway between min and max makes it easy to see when/if things start happening

Hey guys. No road tests yet but from my leak tests the starting time is getting better (as was mentioned, purging the air). Still no leaks. I have not had a chance to check the old cap yet.
Thanks again for all the replies. They are appreciated!
