I'm here to learn about being a powertrain apostate so here goes...
I don't know much about Ford transmissions, or the computer control modules related to them. But assuming I wanted to use the computer controlled 4R100 transmission with something out of the ordinary (anything from a carbureted gas engine to a mechanical injected diesel lets say, it shouldn't really matter - I have interests in this transmission beyond just one project actually) is there a way to do this with a factory Ford ECU or is my only option one of the fancy $2000 aftermarket controllers i've seen for sale?
The stock ECU will need, at the very minimum, vehicle speed and throttle position for it to operate the transmission properly. RPM's do play a small role but but they are mostly referenced for heavy throttle/WOT operations.
