Had a 2000 engine just put in a 1999 navigator and now it won't pass emissions test because the calibration of the engine isn't compatible with the computer. Does anybody have any suggestions of how to make the computer compatible with the engine. Thanks
You need the original ECU unit that came with that engine, OR a another computer with the same calibration. The calibration code should be on the engine-valecovers and should get you started off in the right direction.
I just paid for the man to put in the engine........I guess I will have to ask him about the ecu that you are talking about......How much will it cost to put in a new computer? Thanks
I cannot give you a exact cost BUT you do need the ECU program to MATCH you engines for sure !!. If your mechanic was COMPETENT he or she should have known the engine's calibration is DIFFERANT from year to year, UNLESS they just baited to for a return trip and MORE $$$.
so it is a ecu program that we need? The computer needs to be reprogramed? I sure hope that I am reading that right........Thanks for your help.....I will certainly check that out tomorrow.....If I am reading that wrong let me know.......Cindy
Cindy, {my wife's name also } EACH and every motor comes "programed" with a code from the factory, The calibration code might not work on your ECU or computor, whatever you care to call it. in other words. you MIGHT need a new computer for your engine UNLESS the FORD dealer can "REFLASH" your exsisting computer.
If your replacement engine was out of a smashed truck the guy was parting out he should have the computer still, check and see. Unless ford changed a bunch of wiring I would guess all that will need to be done is swap the computers and be on your way.
I have a 1999 lincoln navigator and trying to replace the compressor and dry to the suspension system.........can't figure out how to disconnect the two air lines from the old dryer and then connect them to the new dryer. Can anybody help me. Thanks Cindy
