Hi. I recently bought an 03 ranger 4.0 with an air conditioner that would work at random. I found that the relay was defective so i switched the fog light relays over and now it works, but now the AC clutch is engaged constantly unless the blower switch in floor mode ? AC blows cold. Could it be the control switch on dash? Any help appreciated. Thanks
I see you don't have any replies yet, so I'll see if I can get things started.
Was it doing this Before the relay swap & is the fog lamp power relay you swapped in, a like kind that's specified for use as the AC power relay?
Hi. when i first started using the ac it would kick in and out, i know its supposed to kick in and out but it wouldnt sometimes switch on for the 5 min with a warm cab,but if i applied a little pressure to the relay it would work, Yes the relays have the same part numbers
I have already gone through all positions on the switch, i know the ac is supposed to switch off in floor mode, and it does. Tried a different switch from the wreckers and still stays running also
If it works when pressing on the relays, remove the AC relay & check its sockets for corrosion, bent contacts, or a faulty wire crimp, or broken strands under the insulation.
Didnt see corrosion but ill check again and wire was going to next. Thanks
Tried in every switch option, only switches off off in floor mode or blower off. And installed a new heater control switch box and still on ?
Good, that's what it's supposed to do, no compressor operation in floor or off (you must mean system off as there is no "blower off" fan position available). Now it's time to (carefully) test the vent (some might call it, "panel") setting to verify the compressor behavior.
