Figured it would be worth posting here to see what others think because I’m stumped. I got a 1995 F350 with the 7.3 and an e40d. I bought it awhile ago so I haven’t had much chance to drive it a lot. My issue is reverse won’t engage. Fluid is good and no bad smell. So was the old fluid before I serviced it. Every other gear works fine. I lifted up the rear end and manually put it into reverse and my passenger rear wheel slowly rolls forward. If you accelerate the wheel will not speed up nor slow down. If you put your hand on the wheel it will stop it. When you put it in neutral you can feel it try to engage a very little bit but otherwise it is almost as if it doesn’t engage at all. Judging by the fact the transmission has an aftermarket pan and when I removed the pan one of the solenoid bolts were in the bottom of the pan, I believe it has had work done to it just not by anybody reliable.
I was wondering what you guys may think is causing this and ways to diagnose or if it is garbage and needs a rebuild. I have a spare trans but would like to save this one if possible. Thanks
If it has third and fourth gears going down the road but not reverse, it's the low reverse clutch causing the problem. It's failed. The only way to fix it is to take the trans out and tear it down.
If it doesn't have third and fourth gears going down the road, it's the direct clutch causing the problem. It's failed. The only way to fix it is to take the trans out and tear it down.
Summary: This trans is finished. Stick a fork in it.

Thank you mark. Could there be any other causes or anything? I have a transmission I can put in just fear putting it in and still not working
