Antenna recommendation's

I'm looking for a smaller antenna than the factory one that still gets good reception. I purchased a stubby antenna and some idiot stole it off my truck. The reception was so terrible that I really didn't get upset that it was gone, (I was already looking at different options anyway). Just a little upset that someone had enough nerve to take it off my truck.

Anyway, if you guys have any recommendations please post them below.

I had to have a shorter antenna becase it hit the overhead of our truck camper . Tried the stubby and reception was crap.
I bought a 24" (stock is 36") and very happy with it. Looks just like the OEM.
Cant get the link to work. I got it from Amazon

I bought one from this place: www.TheAntennaSource.com

The reception is good, looks good. I have had it about a month.

I got this antenna at Amazon. It works great, but I don't really listen to OTA radio. It's pretty much all satellite or streaming for me. But the few occasions I do listen to FM, it has been just fine.

Thanks for the replies, I really like the stubby look, but I probably won't go that route again due to the almost complete loss of reception I suffered with the last one.
I also like the shorter stock look, how short can I go before I start losing reception?

I get it, personalization but in practicality, the OEM mast antenna is good and seldom noticed by anyone other than the vehicle owner.

I don't mind the look, I just prefer it to be lower, I once hit a low hanging tree branch with my antenna and when it snapped back the ball on the antenna cracked my windshield. I had 700 miles on the truck when that happened. I have since not been a very big fan of the antenna being taller than the roof of the truck.

This is the antenna that I replaced the stock one with and there is no noticeable loss in reception, plus it doesn't scrape the garage header.

Thanks for the reply, this one is looking like a good candidate.

How much height difference is there for that 21” above/below the cab?

I’ve heard some folks cut their stock antenna and reattach the ball, but I haven’t looked at it yet - assuming there’s threading that would have to be cut into the top after cutting it? My thought is to try and cut the stock one so that it’s about an inch taller than the cab, that way I have an advance notice that a parking garage is too low before I hit the cab but it otherwise wouldn’t bang around with how tall it is stock. Those indicator bars the garages put at entrances aren’t exactly the most accurate sometimes.

Just keep the stock one and cut off 6" or whatever - easy to do! I park in a parking structure and after a leveling kit and 35's, antenna was hitting the parking structure beams on my way in and out. Bought a stubby one and reception was crap. Trashed it and lopped 6" off stock one and no hitting but same reception.

That make a whole lotta sense. Never considered that might be the cause for change.

I’ve used “the stubby” for the past 8 years. Love them. Clean simple look.

I loved the way the stubby antenna looked on my truck, I just couldn't handle the loss of reception.

Tried the stubby on my F150 didnt care for the look, and couldnt deal with signal lose. Took the stock antenna removed the ball from the end, measured it to stop even with the top of cab, cut it off with a dremel tool, tapperd the end, fit the ball back, hit it with black rustoleum. No difference in signal, doesnt hit my door header anymore, and other than 1/2hr of time, free. Did the same for my superduty.
