Working through the bugs on our 65 Ranger 352 with COM transmission. Original "apple cored" driven gear
Put new driven gear in and it "apple cored" within 50 miles. So again speedometer doesn't work. So per our 65 numbers matching thread it was mentioned the drive gear would have to be replaced if it kept apple coring driven gears.
NumberDummy said the Drive Gear is obsolete and none to be found.
So with no Drive Gears available and not replacing Driven Gear every 50 miles, what are our options for a working speedometer?
I should also mention when the new driven gear did work for the 50 miles or so the speedometer read about 6 miles slower than it should per a couple of radar areas it was driven through.
I don't know the history of the COM but the 352 was rebuilt in the 1990's so maybe the transmission was to. Could it be the wrong driven gear????
The variation in accuracy is due to tire diameter, it may not be possible to get more accurate for a given tire diameter. It sounds like the drive gear is damaged. Best bet is to find a good used one.
Thanks Bill, just bought the driven gear off ebay.
Now find the drive gear I'm assuming that drive gear was used on other ford vehicles with the 352/com?
Yeah the price was right so we bought it. We are also scouring the internet for drive gear. What would cause the drive gear to wear out and cause problems for driven gear?
What would the c4/mx combo look like part number wise? I don't mind changing to the nylon if replacement parts are available.
Yeah it makes sense speedometer might be slightly off but it would be better than the zero it currently reads.
