New TVs

I'm probably not really in the market for a new TV, but I keep wondering about all of the features. (remeber the 3D (not) boom)

So we've got 4K, some 8K(!), UHD and proprietery stuff from different manufacturers. Plus QLED and OLED.

So first -- what do you have to subscribe to to actually get programs that can actually use thes features?
- and are there a lot of actually good shows available -- or just a few overhyped deals?
- plus, of course, how much does it all cost?

As I said, I'm not really looking. I'm and old f**t, and what little I watch is mostly Motor Trend ( which is rapidly sinking) and football during the season. I'm in the boonies so I'm limited to satellite. Yes, I cna get steraming (DSL speed), but I actually like sitting down and just picking from the available channels. That IS getting a lot less interesting, but I still don't like searching out a show and setting it up.

Just wondering about this stuff and what you guys do.

Thanks,

hj

I have a 55" Samsung 4K UHD LED TV and I love it.

Netflix is my favorite but we also get HULU and now we're on a trial with Amazon prime TV as well as cable. Netflix and Hulu are cheap and well worth the money. Amazon gets you access to some other channels that the other two don't access thus negating any need for cable.

Upstairs in the spare bedroom I have a cheap 55" Roku TV set up, no cable access upstairs because I don't want to pay for it. Great picture, access to anything that can capture a signal and it was only $249 at Walmart.

My only regret is that I didn't get a 65" TV.

i have a samsung 55 inch .it is a good set and i want to say it was around $400. much better picture than the old tube type TV, but unless you can get a good high definition signal, the added features are lost.

So you don't benefit from the fact that it's a smart TV? You can plug in a laptop and access signals for channels that aren't available otherwise.

I'll probably be in the market sooner rather than later...current unit is a 40" Sony Bravia that's about 12 years old. That unit cost my $1495 at the time...I can't believe how much they've come down over the years. I've been scoping out a 55" LG...4K...currently priced at about $450. The town I live in has recently added TV and telephone to their internet bundle. I can get 135 channels with HD and DVR...Internet with up and download speed of 100MPS...and...unlimited phone for $149/month. I currently pay $229...without HD and DVR.

I have a 65” Sony LED 4K UHD HDR smart TV. I love this thing! The picture is crystal clear, and with the refresh rate, watching sports, especially NASCAR races, is awesome. I bought it at Best Buy, and if you can wait until the 4th of July or Labor Day, you can find some very good deals on them.
