I was just wondering........
Do you have an HD ready TV?
What is your opinion of HD picture quality?
Do you watch alot of HD broadcasts? If so What is your favorite.
I only get 8 High Def channels with Cablevision and what bothers me is only 2 are ALWAYS broadcast in HD the others only broadcast certain events or movies in HD. The "always on" channels are 13HD (PBS), the other is HBOHD.
I am reluctant to upgrade my Directv because, Directv only offers 4 HD channels ($10.99 p/m extra plus you need to spend $400.00 on equiptment) plus if you order HBO, and Showtime (also extra) you get HBOHD, & ShoHD. They also have an HD PPV.
P.S....In case you do not know you need an HD ready TV to notice any appreciable difference in picture quality ....
No, but if I had to replace my "idiot box" today I'd probably buy one. Really, I too cannot tell the difference and I'm perfectly happy with non-HDTV. The problem is, the govt is making sure that non-HDTV signals will no longer be broadcast down the road; I don't remember what year it will be but it's not all that far off. I've been told that the converters required to make non-HDTV's are gonna be pretty expensive too. Thanks again, US government, for enriching our lives . Since the govt and a few other environmental terrorist groups are so worried about the environment and all, where is the public gonna dump all these old, non-HDTV's at?
What do you guy's mean you can't tell the difference? Just because it says "BROADCAST IN HDTV" doesn't mean your standard t.v now has a higher resolution, you actually have to buy the t.v. Although I don't own one, a friend has one and really likes it. I wouldn't get the extra HDTV right now as there's not that many good shows on it. Wait a year, it should pickup speed in the next few years.... -4speed
I have a HD ready 57" widescreen format and love it. The problem is that there is very few channels and programs that broadcast in HD in my area. The picture quality is definitely noticeable however when your get an HD signal!
The direct TV has more channel options than that. There is a HD Net that is all the time running HD. That channel has a spinoff that plays movies all the time. there is a couple NFL channels. ESPN is also on there. And of course Showtime and HBO. I know there is more but I havn't been working with dad (satelite TV) as much since i started college.
The required year last I knew was 2006. But the TV stations keep complaining about the cost and the Gov't keeps pushing it back.
Personally I believe you might as well buy a normal TV. There isn't any need to rush right out and buy one. As more people buy them the cheaper they will get. They are nice and if you are set on buying one more power to you, I'll sell ya one. But I know I can't justify the cost.

I don't have one, and I couldn't tell the difference on the ones I've seen.
If my TV goes out, I'll just buy another on the size I want and with the normal features
unless I can get a HDTV for cheaper than the other tv i want
I don't have a T.V.....IF/when I buy one, I guess I will get a nice expensive HDTV, may as well...no snse wasting 300 bucks on a P.O.S. compared to the competition...how much the HDTVs cost anyways?
