I have an 08 f250 with a 5.4. I’ve noticed a clacking noise coming from up when I’m slowing down. Sounds brake related since that’s the only time I hear it is when I hit the brakes. It’s a steady clack that slows down as the truck comes to a stop.
Not sure where to start.
I would first start by lifting each front tire up off the ground with a jack. Spin them by hand and see if you hear or see any interference with the rotor ect.
Then I would grab the tire firmly and see if you can get any play out of it, left to right then up and down. Left to right would more likely be something steering related,
worm out ball joints, drag link ect. Then up & down is more likely something like a bad wheel bearing. Just look for play in any of the components & literally grab everything by hand and try twisting it all and pulling on everything from different directions watching all your ball-joints and connection points. Most of the time you can easily find out what it is by doing this.
