Steering wheel removal problems

Hello, I'm new here...
1974 F250
Single Cab, long bed
All original.

I have been trying for 3days to remove the steering wheel, I've seen posts where people have just wiggled them and they are off. Let me assure you, this is not the case, I've broken two pullers and three bolts. I've now decided to ask for help since I can't find a replacement column!!!!

Post some closeups of your wheel attach flange, might need some visuals to assist in helping.

I've never seen one a quality puller won't remove but if it's as bad as you say heat may be your only option. you may have to sacrifice the wheel to save the column.

Steering wheel

440, that was my idea after day two. This started when I bought a new wheel. I have cut the old one off so i could remove the broken bolts. No love lost there. Heat might be my last option.

thread the puller bolts as far in as you can, put as much pressure on the puller bolt as you think it can take, than whack the top of the puller bolt with a sledge hammer.

Pounding on it works sometimes.

If it doesn't put a good hard pull on it with the puller and use the torch . it will jump off

Good notes in here. I broke/bent two bolts from the rental puller so I gave up, and haven't messed with my steering wheel since. I may give some of these suggestions a try too.

I tried keeping pressure on it and using a three pound hammer hoping to loosen it up. I soaked it last night with wd40 hoping that will help it some too. Everyone seems to have no issues. I was hoping I forgot one thing and it would be simple.

Boy, aren't you Mr Fancypants. New steering wheel!! Sheesh, What's wrong with vise-grips? /jk

I'd try some LiquidWrench or Kroil, Acetone/ATF and give it some time. Spray some on, shock the steering shaft with a hammer. Spray some more and hit it again, wait another day or two. WD40 is good stuff, though not a very good rust buster.

PBBlaster would probably work a bit better than WD40, it's actually formulated as a penetrant.

Used to know a guy who swore by a 1/3 mix of brake fluid, ATF, and acetone. Sure don't want to use it where there is any paint! Apply carefully and let it sit a day.

This may sound counterintuitive, but try TIGHTENING the steering wheel nut... if it will tighten at all it should at least break the rust bond between the wheel hub and the shaft splines. Then loosen it and give it another go with the puller.

I'll give just about anything a try at this point. Didn't mean to rub it guys about the new steering wheel. In my defense, I haven't gotten to drive mine for almost 25years. It was my dad's, I'm trying to get it back out there with the rest of ya'll

Someone probably impacted it on. Try a new puller and see if you can impact it back off.

Nah, I was (not very well) trying to be a smart *** and make a joke.

"Isn't this good enough for ya?"

Yeah. Lame joke, never mind lol

Make sure your puller bolts threads are good, and the absolute correct size. And X2 on run the puller bolts ALL THE WAY DOWN, then tighten the center puller pusher bolt. And smack that sucker.

I put heat onto it and under as much pressure I could safely get, hit it with a 3lb hammer, nothing..... at this point there has to be something the 250 has the 100 does not.
