Y'all got hecka triggered. Hope I never get old and cranky. Parhaps, like BF Skinner's rats, you suffer from population concentration. Move further out. A little smoke just blows away. Now, if you live in a suburb or city, there is an oppressive hopelessness that pervades daily routines, causing humans, like Skinner's rats, to seek conflict.

Once they finally add an 'S' into their alphabet acronym, then I'll be covered too. Full disclosure, I may well own a diesel someday. Depends on economy/fuel prices in the next 3 years and also how that new 7.3L gasser performs.

That's been going on since the first horseless carriages hit the road.

Ahhhh!!!!!!! These kids rolling coal are just amateurs! Should have been around the old Rattling Cat powered trucks! They could leave a cloud all the way from LA to Phoenix when they came from the factory! Then if one were to turn them up a little..............

Turning up your fuel screw or using a tuner to roll coal is dumb. No need to draw attention to yourself. It just gives other diesel pickup drivers a bad image.

I wonder why sled pull trucks do it? You'd better go the the next tractor pull event near you and tell them all that they're dumb.
If they reply with some nonsense about cooling upper cylinders, just brush them off like Nobama did with facts.

1693ta?

yea they didnt seem to change anything from their settings in dozers and scrapers. Youve seen the old D8's and 937's run im sure.

3406 cleaned it up alot with afc and low boost fuel control

I wouldn't know.

Your signature mentions that you have an IDI. It's my understanding that you can only turn up the fuel screw so much on the IP before the exhaust temp goes too high. To get coal out of an IDI do you have to turn up the screw beyond the point your EGTs are high? If so then that's a gamble I wouldn't be willing to take just to look macho.

How do modern diesels roll coal? I @$$ume it's a tune loaded on the ECM. The only thing I know about that is that Powerstrokehelp mentions in his videos that tuners advance injection timing for HP and torque gains. That's definitely a gamble.

I've coaled a couple people that deserved it, just a brief puff right at them. But then realized that they probably don't have a clue that I was 'telling' them to stop driving like a douche so it's probably pointless, they probably just think my Excursion is messed up.

And one time I did it somewhat on accident with my IDI, big time. It had spent a lot of time idling & driving slow on a some heavy WMO and I wanted to clear it out. I looked in my right mirror, nobody there, so I stood on it. I looked again and could see what appeared to be headlights making their way through the wall of smoke, it was just becoming dusk. As the car passed me there was smoke billowing out of his window, I felt bad for blasting him. It was a Sheriff's deputy in his patrol car, he just kept going.

The people who run a tune that makes thick smoke every time they get on the power are idiots. It's wasting fuel, potentially damaging the engine, and probably helping motivate more laws against diesels and modified vehicles in general.
