2012 6.7 intercooler upper pipe explosion!
Yesterday I had my Egr and Dpf pipe deleted and added a tuner. First thing I noticed was I could hear the turbo. Odd enough something sounded off. Well I couldnt hear it so well in the cab but my friend said he heard it as I left work. There was an underpass on my way home sound figured Id see if I could hear it under there. Boom! Suddenly I lost psi but no engine lights. I pulled over to check under the hood and find this obliterated pipe. The piece I am holding in my hand was laying just behind the throttle body. So i believe everything is fine my only concern is any pieces possibly be in the line of fire of that turbo and ultimately getting sucked in! I have already ordered a lower and upper replacement pipes. They are not plastic (for whatever reason Ford engineers thought it was brilliant to make these this way). From what I have read up online this pipe is a ticking time bomb and explodes when it wants to anytime no matter what. We believe it was already cracked hence the funny sound. Input and suggestions? I am trying to figure a course of action to take with this.
The pipe that blew is the cold air side coming out of the inner cooler. It is after the turbo, so nothing will get sucked into turbo.
You need to acquire an aftermarket version that is two metal tubes or one metal tube or all silicone. I have the Rudy's older style with two metal tubes.
Here is the link where I installed mine.
