Front engine mount question

I have attached a photo of how the front motor mount is configured in our 1956 truck, the engine is a 292 Y block and wasn’t original to this truck – according to my research it’s from the early sixties but I have no idea what it came from. The mount was set up like this when I bought the truck and I'm trying to figure out a nicer or better way to mount the engine as this is a pretty rough job and to be honest it just doesn’t ‘look right’. I am in Australia and there are no other trucks around me that I can look at to compare so I’m hoping someone on this forum can shed a little light on this mount configuration and what would be a better option. Thanks.

That looks like a car type front mount , definitely not a correct '56 truck mount .

That is a 1961-64 ford truck mount on the engine connected to a 56 original 223 6 cylinder mount that has been modified to reach the y block mount

Looks solid to me. As long as it works, I'd leave it as is.

Thnaks guys - that sheds some light on it for me now
Another thing that kinda puzzles me and for the same reason as above - I don't really have anything else to compare to but it's the position of the engine relative to the radiator. With a 3 1/4" aluminium spacer the fan is still 3 1/2" away from radiator. I've never had any real cooling issues but I thought I'd get some input on the position of it while I was on this subject. Thanks again.

They needed the extra space for the six cylinder engine.

The location of the bell housing is set by the transmission and the supporting cross member. The location of the radiator is set by the “yoke” that supports the front clip. The space between had to allow for the longer six cylinder engine. So the shorter V8 just ends up further from the radiator.

Ideally, you would want the fan within one inch of the radiator but if you have no cooling issues you could just leave it as is. You could put a clutch fan on it and take up some of that extra space. I would love to have a clutch fan on mine but I don't have room for it.

The y block sits back quite far in stock form. As stated earlier the transmission bell housing mount location is the same weather truck has a 6 or v8
the y block fan shroud is several inches deep compared to a 6 cyl shroud

I really appreciate the feedback as that explains why it is what it is. I'm assuming that if I want a more 'correct' engine mount that I would have to find and bolt in a frame cross member and then find a Y Block front engine mount to suit. The fan is a long way from the radiator so I will most likely add a shroud in due course.

I agree, it has that cool farm-engineered look, with what looks like a really well done weld job. Sometimes you just can't get cooler than that if it does the job.
