Pro Pride review

Just pulled a 35 ft TT 1850 miles. Eastern CO NM TX - FL.
HIGH wind "SAFETY CORRIDOR" mountain passes and many tractor trailer passings. Bottom line..... worth the investment.
It's more like driving a box truck than pulling a trailer.

This hitch replaces the single pivot point with dual.

Thanks for posting the review and pictures. How tough to install, and cost of the Pro Pride?

Hi Mike. Are you a borderland Scottish Kerr? Well, descendent anyway?
Installation was about 2 hours BUT you also have removal and relocation of tanks, tool/battery box, even the E-brake lines. Just strip EVERYTHING off before you begin.
$3000.00! Yep 3k. But for 28 hours of peace on the highway, I felt it a justifiable expense. AND i can always sell it for 2500 when I'm done with it.
My buddy has both F-250 CCab and Ex. The F is just a little bit longer with wider axles. But there's a HUGE difference pulling a long trailer. We both have 35ft TT.

That YOKE is the key to keeping the sway out. You can see it straddles the tongue jack foot. PS bring your tools. You'll want to re- torque the bolts as you go

I'll bet it performs great! I have only 2 concerns: the extra weight of all that hitch stuff for guys like me that are close to RAWR, and the movement of the hitch ball backwards would tend to make any hitch weight have more effect on the tow vehicle because it's farther from the rear wheels. I suppose the latter can be compensated by extra force on the WD bars.

I assume your truck has plenty of spare payload/RAWR/hitch weight so those aren't concerns for you. Any thoughts?

I don't think the hitch ball is that far behind most WD hitches. Anyone have comparison measurements?

Its quite a bit farther back than a conventional WD head, on the order of 11" If I remember correctly.

It doesn't really matter though in my opinion as its the only cure for "mega" bumper TT's on Excursions. I am still using one even after switching to a CC dually because of the ease of connecting/tensioning and the extra towing stability.

OP: You made a excellent choice with the 3P vs the Hensley

?

I saw a video that commented that the Hensley didn't have the vertical pivot that the 3P has. I'm not technically sure what the difference is myself jab ing just purchased the 3P.
The 3P was about $250 more.

They are the same in that both are of the same design principal. The execution is much different though in every aspect of the hitches design, IMO the 3P is for the better.

3P Pros
  • Adjustable height and angle stinger.
  • different stinger shank sizes available 2", 2.5" for now.
  • No drilling of the tongue for shear bolts.
  • No shear bolts period.
  • More robust WD bar attachment hardware
  • more robust WD jack design
  • CNC machined stinger pocket (not welded up from multiple strips of steel)
  • Improved ramp angle on stinger to alleviate sticking
  • No strut bars to bend
  • No strut bar pin holes in the hitch head to tear out
  • thicker link plates
  • more material at the rear of the WD bar bores

That's all I can think of now but you get the idea, and I have a Hensley.

They are the exact same in the pivot point projection department, no more or less depending on Hensley Arrow or Pro Pride 3P.
The 3P has a yoke arrangement and might appear to have more going on but in reality it has the same range of motion as the Arrow and it's strut bar setup.
