First Upgrades

So I’m new to the forums, but I was hoping y’all could help me out. I just bought a 2011 F-150 FX4 EcoBoost. I’m looking for y’alls advice on some of the first things I should do to it. It came with a good set of wheels and tires, a leveling kit, airbags on the rear, raptor style grille, LED headlights, Berliner and cover, cold air intake, and a decent set of seat covers. The truck has almost 150,000 miles on it but it was a grandpa truck and I actually got to meet the previous owner and view the service records which all checked out. Normally I wouldn’t have bought this high a mile truck but the deal was amazing!!! The point being, though, I need suggestions for upgrades to the performance and longevity of the truck, or anything y’all might think of. Thanks for your help!! -SFD536

I don't know about upgrades, but I would consider changing transmission fluid, rear axle gear lube, and see when spark plugs were changed out ( if they were).

Like Steve just said. A full, complete and thorough service. You might also consider sending your oil off to a lab to have it tested.

If the previous owner didn't switch to 5w30 oil (which was suggested by Ford after it was originally spec'd for 5w20), you should. I would also consider using a high mileage full synthetic.

If the hoses are original, they should be evaluated and changed as needed. If the plugs have over 40k miles, they should also be changed to the latest spec and gap setting.

Check the front wheel bearings for play and have the ball joints and CV joints/shafts evaluated. Check the U joints rear pinion seal and axle seals.

Once all those things are done or checked as good, clean it up really well inside and out. Then enjoy the ride!

Congrats on your new truck. Keep in touch. Post some pics when you can and welcome to the site.

For reliability and longevity, get rid of the"cold air" intake. It'll severely decrease turbo and ring life. Nothing filters as well as paper. The increased particulate ingested will destroy turbo vanes and piston rings. Sure, they'll work on a street driven or essentially single use race motor, but in the dirt, they simply don't work well.
