Just bought a 2006 F-350 and have come across a bunch of annoying electrical issues:
1. dome lights do not come on (front or back) but map lights all work
2. lights in door panels don't come on when doors are opened
3. white truck bed lights don't work (haven't checked bulbs)
4. license plate lights don't work (new bulbs) but tail lights work fine
There may be other things I haven't found yet but bought a Ford owner's manual and it doesn't give any hint of which fuses or relays this might be near as I can tell. Any tips on how to fix my issues would be much appreciated! Thanks wg
The first three are all the same circuit (interior/courtesy lamps). Fuse F35 in the CJB switched via the interior lamp relay in the instrument cluster. Unfortunately, the owner's manual is quite useless as it simple says that F35 goes to the cluster. Well, it does, but it just gets switched to the interior lighting circuit when that relay is energized.
#4 is probably just the license plate bulbs or the harness connector or a bad ground.. They're wired in parallel to the tail lamps.
The interior lamp relay is in the instrument cluster? How do you get to it to check it out if the fuse is OK? BTW: Bulbs in license tag lamps were switched with new ones. Since the tail lamps work OK, will need to look at the ground. Many thanks!
You'd pull the instrument cluster out and inspect it. The relay is soldered to the board so replacing it is NOT a simple task, especially if one is not an electronics tech. Previous posters have indicated that a burned trace on the printed circuit board have been found.
Fuse #35 tests OK and I also swapped it for another good 10A fuse and still no bueno so it looks like I live with the lights being dark till I can afford a new instrument cluster or repair. Doesn't look terrible to remove the instrument cluster but dollars for fix or replace are short. Wish I could see a picture of the relay as I went through page after page searching and can't find an image anywhere. Seems if folks found this relay an issue, someone would have taken pics of it and the board that smoked a tad.
