Jscott's Build Thread

Bought my excursion back in November of 2018 with just over 200,000 miles on the clock. Couldn't pass up a rig like this after owning a 2002 F350 with the 7.3, too.

I didn't do much at first because I was in the middle of a move but now have some space to work.

First up was a double DIN with android auto and BT.

Install was pretty straight forward. Easier than I remember with after market radios.

The truck was also lacking some front suspension. The bump stops were gone and it was bottoming out on the frame over large bumps.

I decided to drive out to PA and talk with Junior at ATS on a solution. I picked up some V-code leaf springs and Bilstien 4600's (and an ATS sweatshirt) to give a nicer ride.

Install wasn't bad. Took about 8 to 10 hours to do both sides with new springs, shocks, and shackles. Surprisingly didn't hit any major snags with rusted bolts.

Of course, tires are a must. I somehow found a near new set of 18 inch Eagle Alloys wrapped in 325/65r18 Nitto Terra Grapplers for only $550.

Next up I ordered some new rocker panels for both sides, inside and out as the running boards I ordered can't be mounted on the old rusted out panels. That's a project I'll need to set aside some extra time for.

Where might I ask did you find the inner rocker panels?

I made my own for my 2001 out of a sheet I bought from NI steel, I cut my olds ones out and traced, and cut, them out of a 4'x8' sheet of 10 gau. A lot of people ask about the harder to find rocker parts, so thought I would ask.

I actually found these.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/6674678...2004-2005-ford

They might need some modifications because it says full length on the outers, which I thought where two piece front/rear. I thought the inner was one large piece. But I think I can make them work.

Replaced the multifunction switch today. Flash to pass didn't work and turn signal would only hold in one spot. Easy fix. About ten minutes worth of work.

It's the DDX9705S. I bought it from Best Buy but they price matched Crutchfield. I really enjoy the stereo. It has Android Auto and CarPlay. Also has DVD functionality which is nice for longer ride for passengers.

Thanks! Looking at making an upgrade from the original and want to keep all the current features (rear dvd, steering wheel controls, etc.). Going to put this on the list and check out a couple others.

Installed the 6637 filter from Riffraff diesel. The previous owner put a K&N filter in so I was glad to get rid of that.

I threw in a USB mount too for my radio. I used to just have the two USB cables coming from behind the dash just hanging and didnt much care for that. This works pretty well and was only $12

Nice, did you upgrade the rear suspension too? I'm guessing your Excursion doesn't have stock rear springs.
