E4od identification frustrations
I rebuilt my 460, swapped in a 5 speed, converted over to a dana 50 front(I dont need a heavy front axle I just hate getting stuck on job sites).
Drove it around for a few weeks and realized that most of my driving is in heavy urban areas where im shifting gears non stop and realized how much I really enjoy automatics for that. LOL
SO I am going to rebuild my old e4od since I have to do that to swap in the 4x4 tailshaft. I went and got a junk e4od and pulled it apart. (anyone need hard parts from it that are near Chattanooga Tn let me know) It was in horrifyingly bad shape(clutch packs melted together and so forth.)
HERE'S the issue!!! My good e4od is a tough nut to crack on identifying it. The check ***** that are in the case body identify it as a 1990-1995(it has 9 *****) BUT the valve body matches the 1996-1998 with the three 1/4 and 2 5/16 *****.
Im also installing the superior shift kit which states that there should be an inner and outer spring in the acumulator body but mine only had the outside which identifies it as a 4r100 unless someone had already modiffied it or swapped in a 4r100 valve bodys.
So any ideas on whats going on here? Do I have a frankensteined transmission or a rare unicorn lol?
1. Should I just remove the extra check ball and build it as a 96
2. The valve body plate ids as a 97 6.9. Do I need to install a 96 7.5 plate?
