Shocks for 450

Looking to replace the factory shocks on my '19 450 as they seem to be going downhill fast. Not expecting a Cadillac ride by any means, but after 2500 miles they definitely are showing their poor quality. Read good things about the Ranco 9000xl's....any recommendations?

I have Bilstein shocks on my 450. Makes it ride real nice. The jiggle on the freeway in the city is gone.

I'm very happy with the RS9000s on my 2017 F450.

After having several Ford SDs, the OEM shocks were normally gone after 25-30k miles, same for my 450. Replaced with Rancho 9000XL (probably would have gone with Bilsteins, but weren't available for rear) at 54k miles. Very stiff solo ride on 5 setting, now running on 3 all around. Much improved for towing heavy, but somewhat rougher than OEMs. Maybe waited too long for replacement as rear was bottoming on most potholes/bridge transitions. No more hitting the bump stops. I actually think Monore Gas-Magnums would be an improvement on the OEM 'Ranchos' and much cheaper than either 9000s or Bilsteins. Several threads on this subject, just search and the Rancho numbers will be listed.

Rancho does not make shocks to fit the rear of the 2018 or 2019 F450

I have Bilstein 5100’s on my 350 and the ride is much improved. I’ve seen some 450 owners with them on here and they like them also.

scuderi,
Unless Ford made a major change to the '18/'19 rear shock mounts, the Rancho 9000XL # RS999047A fits the rear. That is what fits the '17 and just put on my 450.

I had put the Fox 2.0s on my 450. Was also running a larger whee/tire combo (American force 19.5x6.5s and 265 width tire) and the tires at around 70 psi. Truck handled well and was suspension was well controlled and not too harsh.

If I buy a new 450, I may just swap out shocks before I take delivery. What company is the recommendation for the best ride? I swapped out a set on my last DRW to Bilsteins, and they made a definite difference, but that was back in 03'.. Are they still considered the best?
Thanks.

Appreciate the lesson on shocks. But if the shock is shot on the compression stroke, there is no 'hydraulic dampening'. Funny how the springs got better just after installing the shocks...

I was in contact with the Ranchero and I had to send the shocks back that they originally said would fit my F4 50 they change their tune and said that they do not have rear shocks to 5018 or the 19 because Ford went to beggar bolts and the only ones that come close to our 3 inches too shor I was in contact with Ranchero and I had to send the shocks back that they originally said would fit my F450
When I called again they had said that they do not have rear shocks that 5018 or the 19 because Ford went to bigger bolts

Appears Rancho is still confused. The first shocks I got that they said fit--didn't. Swore to the tech that is what fits a '17 450. Took advice from this group to figure out the correct Rancho number and the ones they said would fit, wouldn't, because the bolt hole WAS TOO SMALL on the lower end. The 999047A has the larger bushing bolt hole, Ford bolt fit fit this one just fine. Apparently, several contributors to this forum know more about their Fords than Rancho does...
