I went to install a factory cigar lighter in my truck a1978 f150 and I plugged it in outside of the dash with no issue but once it was in place the courtesy and glovebox lights went out and it seemed like the solenoid was trying to spin the truck or was stuck this has happened before and I replaced the solenoid with a motorcraft unit and pulled out the lighter I don’t know why hooking it up would mess with solenoid or why it would be fine outside the dash any help is appreciated
when you install it in the dash, the metal case of the lighter is grounded. Does it display those symptoms only when you push the lighter in to heat it up? if so, i would check to make sure you have a good ground to the cab...
you just need to make sure the inside of that connector is clean and free of rust and corrosion, same with the small stud on the end of the lighter...but that is not what is causing your issue. if you lighter itself is ok, nothing should change when you plug the wire onto the lighter...
