Okay, so my oil dipstick is broken. Wait, the tube is broken. Was trying to check out oil level and whole thing pretty much came off.
A little bit of tube on top attached to the top. And rest of the tube to the bottom was missing.
So, i had my technician at my shop work on it, supposedly, exhaust manifold has to come off? 2 out of 8 bolts came out but others are super rusty and seems like they are not coming off. How would I fix the problem or at least some temp fix so I don’t worry about debris going into the engine?
A lot lot of this issues posted about v10 and 5.4 but haven’t seen many for 6.2.
ive had good luck taking a 12” long punch and driving the broken bit down a touch and then using a vice grip to twist and pull the busted bit out once it seized on the tapered punch shaft. The punch is long enough that the exhaust manifold doesn’t have to come off.
worst case scenario, the bit drops in and falls to the bottom of the oil pan where you leave it. It’s too big to get sucked into the oil pick up and too small to cause FOD to the rotating assembly if it ever kicks up off the bottom of the pan, which it won’t. If you’re gonna be paranoid about it, stick a couple rare earth magnets to the low point of the pan and the bit will live there forever
So, at my shop, my lead technician gave up on it. He crimped on what's left and said it won't get any debris in. It still makes inconvenient for me to not be able to check oil level though even if it's gonna protect me from having debris going in.
Does anyone know in Seattle area that can take up on this job? If I were to take it to the dealer to get it done, would they pretty much rape me in cost?
Or, by long shot, are there any ways to check oil level without the dipstick?
