homemade tube steps

just finished a set of tube steps mounted in the stock location. 5" channel for the mounts, 2" square tube welded to the channel and 1 5/8" bent round tube for the steps. they are just in primer now. i'll take them off and paint them black. the hardest part was the compound angle where the round tube meets the square tube.

what do you think? i like them. i just have to remount my marker lights. i dont like the way they laid out. the mounting hardware for the steps got in the way. i'm going to add a peice of angle on top of the square tube in front of the pinch weld, this way i can space the lights out perfectly from end to end.

That looks great! Real nice! The bends came out perfect!

My only question: Is the raw steel on the inside of the tubing and square stock of any concern? Do you think they will rot from the inside out?

thanks red & bucci. i'm not concered about it rotting out from the inside, its thick wall material. heres the reason the bends are right

the tubes are 44" long and i measured 4" from the ends of the tube to a reference mark on the bender.

Looks good, I like the design! Does anybody know how hard something like that would be to adjust to a frame mount? I need a set but just aren't comfortable mounting them to the body.

i would think if you wanted to frame mount them you would need two suports...one high and one low. or how about mounting them like the westin tube steps?

I had thought about the same thing, but I will say that the body is VERY stout... the flex was in the stock runners. But if you wanted to do that, I would use the body for the vertical support and use the frame for your horizontal support.

a little update. i did'nt like the way my lights looked. i had them mounted to the pinch welds. they were to recessed and because of the bolts that attach the steps to the truck the spacing was'nt perfect. so i made these contoured filler plates to mount the lights to. i spaced them out from the truck 1 1/4" and pre-wired them. heres some pics.
