Along with the tranny swap, I also did what I call "The CDR Delete Mod". Reason, got tired of oil going into my intake and making a mess of things, including the air filter. Also wanted to smell more diesel than oil coming out the tail pipe. Not that I don't mind the oil smell, I just wanted more diesel. Yes I know these trucks are known as oil burners. I just wanted to do improve the trucks performance just a tad. With the help of my dad, I got her did. So enough blabbing. First thing I did was take of the tube off the CDR that goes into the cooling jacket. Then I got some 3/4" Hydro tubing(I think),or at least big enough to fit snugly into the CDR tube. Then, with a chop saw, I cut the Hydro tubing flush with the top of the CDR tube. Next, I took a 1/2" standard right angle pipe fitting screwed it into the CDR tube with the Hydro tube in it. Screwing the fitting in tightened against the tube and squeezed it tight against the inside of the CDR tube. Then I took the remainder tubing and screwed it to the other end. Now it is assembled. Now to plug the hole in the intake, I used an expendable pipe plug to seal the hole off.(pics will show) Next, I took the rear engine hoist hook off and mounted it turned around and on the last bolt. I used washers for the other bolt. Now I threaded the CDR delete tube into the hook and down the right side of the tranny and simply plugged the tube into the cooling jacket. Now it is finished. I have tested it out multiple times and it has proved to work well. Enjoy the next post of pics.
hmm i tried that same concept only a stiffer tube and heat bent it and ran it back down but i always had a puddle and that is not a delete thats basically a drt i believe its what most semis have on them at least that is what i was told it was was a drt (down road tube) i think idk but yea i tried that and it didnt work out so well
similar to what the EARLY gassers had, simply a draft tube. i know on gassers, such a system is prone to having enough positive crankcase pressure that it blows out past all manner of seals, whereas the PCV (again, for gassers) doesn't do that, and a good CDR doesn't have problems there.
as for the smell of oil burning, the only oil mine burns is the stuff i pour in the fuel tank, and i drip out a tiny bit at the oil cooler, but only like a quart every few weeks, so its nothing yet.
Reminds me of an old motorhome we were working on in school. Had an old Detroit in it, with a draft tube going into an old ammo can with a petcock on the bottom. So much blow-by it would fill to a point and the owner would drain it.
Would work well for anyone dealing with puddles being left by this setup...
Like I said, Mine don't leave a puddle on the ground. I wasn't about to leave that thing on there and let oil make a mess of everything. My brother did something similar to his 99 stroker, A buddies 97 stroker, and my dad's 08 stroker, except they didn't have a CDR. They had what my bro called a "Dog House" mounted on top of the driver's side valve cover. It had a hose barb on it that connected to the intake. He simply attached a hose to the dog house and ran it down. He has No problems with oil. Anyway, I'll keep an eye on it and see of I see anything. I'll tell you what though, I stopped losing oil ever since I did the delete.
