Hello all! I have a July built 2011 6.7l . The last 20k miles I been having A unusual sound coming from the engine during deceleration while towing . It sounds exactly like a belt squealing . Now here is the odd thing. While driving down the hill the motor will shift the transmission down the RPMs comes up and no sound . But as I continue on down and pick up speed, the squealing gradually come on and gets louder . Now if I traverse down a hill and a transmission shifts down without picking up speed I never hear the sound of a squeal .
today while going down hill at 2500 rpm and picking up speed SQUEAL. Also while traveling down hill a few miles later trans shifted down no increase in speed 3400 rpm no squeal.
In my mind it’s almost like when the engine break starts to break the squealing starts coming on and gets louder . I Tow a 12,000 pound fifth wheel and I’ve changed the serpentine belt and I’ve looked at all of the inner core connections to see if there is a crack. And I didn’t find any . There is plenty of power and plenty of boost the motor is performing like the day I have bought it . Oh and by the way I have owned this truck from new in 2011 and currently has 141,000 miles .
ALSO sound comes from driver side.
Anyone with the same conditions that could shine some light on this condition? Thanks for the help.
That would make some sense. Only time I hear the squeal is when the turbo is in “ engine braking” going down hills. And that would cause back pressure. And if there is a crack then you get a whistle due to the back pressure. What did the exhaust crack cost to fix?
