Hows it going guys! It's my first post on this forum. I have a 65 f100 sidestep that I want to lower and put 22 or 24" wheels. Wanted some advise on wether you have an airbag setup or IFS adjustable system with coilovers? This is the current look. Still has a lowered I beam system. Thanks for your help!
While i had the same thoughts...thats not a great response to someone's first post.
Sooo Welcome! I don't really have an answer on putting in IFS but i'd imagine that a lot of custom work. I see a lot of folks doing a crown vic swap and that might be what's needed. Good luck.
Ditto what Christmas said...….. I cringe when I see the good 'ol classics getting "getto molested"...… that being said, I'm a firm believer in to each his own and if you own it, the only one that has to like it is you, ( as a guy that has put tens of thousands of$$$ into many Harley's)....…. I'm sure money and time can get that truck as close the ground as you want it..... it will certainly be a custom fab kind of deal......good luck, enjoy, and that's a sweet truck!
Welcome! That's a good looking truck and it's still wearing it's original unobtanium emblems. I don't know the first thing about lowering anything. But I think to go where you say want to go it may require a complete new frame $$$.
Welcome and I say that's a good looking truck! Are you trying to tuck 22"s all around? IFS will be your best bet to get it there. I was actually researching for a '54 F1 build and found that Heidt's has pretty good range of kits and options to choose.
Welcome to FTE from Canada. I am the local Flareside lover however, I hope many on this site love the Flareside. I like the current lowered look as it takes up the huge gap between the top of the tires and the bottom of the wheel well of the box. I always worry one of those electric car jobs might get wedged in there in a fender bender if it is stock height. In regards to going lower that will require mods to the box floor. I have seen people remove the wood floor, drop the truck and then build a false floor on top of whats left. It appears as though you still have a correct floor in the box you just lose some height to the top edge of the box. As far goes 22's I have no idea. I am thinking you will end up with wafer thin tires to fit that big of a wheel. This reduces body roll and improves handling but at the expense of feeling every pebble on the road you hit. Are you looking to be at the same height you are at now or the canned look? Best of luck to you.
There's some groups on facebook that are probably more friendly. Search on Crown Vic F100 Full Frame swap or Ford F100 world build it your way or 61 thru 66 Ford F100s.
This board is interested in stock or near stock restoration. It's a good resource for what parts go on what truck and stock repairs. Not much in the way of modification or customizing though.
And Never never ever ask about a chevy engine in your truck on one of those facebook groups.

Nice truck, btw.
I live in Hawaii so not very many scrap yards around here for a crown Victoria swap unless I could buy it outside and fly it here. Thanks for the hospitality btw

Sounds like you're gonna get a lot of parts shipped in for this project no matter what. Great looking pickup, hope you'll stick around to post progress pictures. I may be in the minority around here that would love to see the finished product.

Looking at staggering the wheels possibly with 22's in back. Seriously looking at the heidt's kit. Was hoping that someone would have some feedback on that kit and the QA1 kit? Thx bro

Yeah looking at sitting the entire body only a few inches off the ground. Will definately need to raise the bed floor and notch the frame. The ride will hopefully stay similar with the new front and rear suspension even with the smaller tires. This is not a daily driver though so we will have to suffer for beauty if necessary lol.
