Brakes

2018 f150. Hooked up my fifth wheel trailer today. The brakes work if I squeeze the brake control. They do not work when I step on the brake pedal. The truck has towing package from factory. Any ideas

How do you know they are not working?

If you squeeze the controller, you hear a buzz at all wheels correct?

If you are stationary and look at the graph and place your foot on the brake does the graph change with the pressure you place on the brake?

Most of the controllers are pretty seamless now and will not react like older aftermarket controllers. You won't feel that jerk when going down the road and putting on the brakes.

No buzz at each wheel?

Pull the 7 pin connector apart and clean and confirm the connections

The fact that your brakes work when the brake controller is used demonstrates the brake system is working properly.
Note:
Your vehicle must recognize the trailer before the trailer can receive power.
Recognizing a Trailer:
1. Attach the trailer and wiring connector to your vehicle
2. Switch on your vehicle
3. Press the brake pedal for a few seconds
A confirmation message appears in the information display.

The trailer brake controller is equipped with a feature that reduces output at speeds below 11 mph (18 km/h) so trailer and vehicle braking is not jerky or harsh.
This feature is only available when applying the brakes using your vehicle's brake pedal, not the controller.

My 2008 f350 is doing the samething

My 08 f350 is doing the same thing, works great on manual but not on the brake pedal, I’ve adjusted the trailer brakes, replaced the pressure transducer and brake controller, the green bars for gain show the pedal is working correctly.
I’ve discovered that if you make hard brake application with the brake pedal, the trailer brakes will work, which tells me that if I set my brakes to 3.5 on the controller, and only 1/2 the green bars show up, ( normal brake application) I should have brakes, unless I have a poor connection some where and it’s taking the voltage away from the trailer...so with that said anybody have a clear wiring schematic of the integrated trailer brake control system, the ones I’ve found on the internet are not clear enough.?

Since the trailer is jacked up its not going over 11 MPH, so "normal" brake controller performance will be reduced, maybe this is what you are seeing?

The integrated controllers do not engage the trailer brakes with the pedal when you are not moving only the manual slide will. The only time I like this feature is when I'm sitting at a light with the brakes applied so in my case the hydraulic pump isn't running but with electric brakes your magnets won't be energized heating them up. I hate it in CG because if you don't get over the trigger mph you only have trailer brakes with the manual slide, the newer ones have a small voltage applied at low speeds but I dont think it's enough to stop the trailer just stop any jerking. It will keep the trailer brakes applied all the way to a stop but as soon as you let off the trailer brakes stop working. If you roll ahead at a light just remember your trucks doing all the stopping because of this stupid feature so be sure and keep you distance from the traffic in front of you. I feel you should have full braking power as soon as the truck moves but what do I know.
