Oh... and I wouldn't directly beat on that seal with a maul.
I agree 100% with both of those bits of advice!

I will be using plenty of brake cleaner on the driver side hub, axle, rotor and other hard metal pieces to clean all of the gear oil off the surfaces.

Looking forward to getting the job done, so I can get the truck washed and get the city stank off it.

This is a job that I will need to tackle in the not so distant future. I did acquire a partial parts list that may be helpful:

E brake lever/actuator F81Z*2A637*AA 25.34 x2

Caliper slide pin kits F81Z*2C150*BA 17.79 X2

Axle O rings E5TZ*4A331*A 1.62 x2

Oil slingers BC3Z*4670*B 1.65 x2

Bearing F81Z*1244*AB 26.29 x2

Race F81Z*1243*AA 19.73 x2

Bearing C7TZ*1240*A 27.94 x2

Race C7TZ*1239*A 12.97 x2

Axle seal 4C3Z*1S177*A 27.73 x2

Great addition to the thread. Do you mind if I quote/mention your forum name in the video?

Of course. I figured that when I would get into it, I'd go ahead and knock out the races and install new races & bearings and be done with it. I replaced the carrier bearings when I installed the TrueTrac. Just the pinion bearings and seal remain!

I replaced the inner axle seal and the driver side E-brake shoes without too much trouble. The biggest trouble was just being unfamiliar with the task at hand and triple checking my steps.

I was planning on replacing the passenger side E-brake shoes with the method that IDI-Charlie has above in my first post, but have decided against that for now. It is too damn hot in the garage by mid day and I am not in the practice of replacing things like that which are not broken. Clearly the passenger side E-brake works because we used it on out trip a couple of weeks ago. I know for sure the driver side was NOT working because it was saturated with axle fluid.

I need to check the axle fluid level in the differential and adjust the brake shoes for proper fit under the rotor tomorrow. After that, the repair job will be done.

I took some video and pictures of the E-brake replacement and axle seal fix, but there are already so many videos out there that I probably won't create a finished video on it. Maybe I will just keep the video and photos in a file and do one up this winter.

Before removing the truck from the garage though, I need to figure out where my fuel bowl drain tube disappeared to and clean the condensation out of the passenger side turn signal housing.

Thanks to everyone for advice and inspiring confidence for me to accomplish this task! Enjoy your weekend!
