I have checked that and ohmed everything out from the IDM connector, but because that seems like a very valid possibility I am going to check it again to make sure.

After 5 months of chasing this issue down it turn out the catalytic converter was clogged up enough that it was preventing the engine from burning all the fuel due to the back pressure it was creating. I disconnected the exhaust and all the smoke went away. Replace the catalytic converter and the truck is running nicely now. Thanks for all the suggestion and help I received from this forum. It is great to have such good help when you need it.

Glad it wasn't something more serious! And thanks for posting what the solution was. Someday someone with the same issue will find your post and be glad for it.

Where did you get the Cat? I heard Ford doesn't make them any more and here in Cali, there's no after market approved cat's.

I had another parts truck which I took parts from. I have since stripped that one down and taken it to the crusher.

You can always "unclog" them using a pressure washer back flushing them. I did this to a 6.doh kitty thats in my OBS as we speak. That sucker was plugged solid.
