Back Flushing the Heater Core

Can anyone verify which lines below the de-gas bottle are used to back flush the heater core? Some of the more complete descriptions show putting a garden hose on the heater return line, then a drain line on the Y fitting where the heater return line was removed. They also described removing the heater supply line between the vacuum valve and firewall on the passenger side but I'm not sure why.

A little air injected in with the water will kick things loose that are still stuck with water alone.

DTR's video does not show backflushing the heater core, it shows the OPPOSITE! I'm deconstructing my old facebook page so I don't a link to the old cooling system work I had a pictorial about.

However, at the Wye under the degas bottle you need to disconnect the hose from the heater core, which is the 3/4" line. You can use a garden hose repair connector to do this and it will be your garden hose inlet.

For heater core outlet, the connection is by the alternator, or if you like, up at the vacuum controlled valve that shuts off flow. Doesn't matter.

The garden hose connectors will be like this.

This will let you bring the garden hose in from under the reservoir, and using another garden hose connected at the passenger side, allow water to come out without splashing everywhere.

Thanks Jack, I was thinking the same thing about it not being a back flush. Is the other black hose in your diagram at the "came from here" location just another drain line then?

Back in the dark ages when Ford still had the TSB to flush after replacement, I was playing with all types of chemicals and flush methods to clear the oil cooler. After days I finally gave up and replaced the cooler, then I cut the oil cooler apart. I was getting somewhere with dissolving the G-05 gel, but to fully clear I would have needed to work on it for a month. With the last cooler after ELC and cutting it up, this one was debris and it probably would have cleared with the new reverse flush "technology", aka out of box thinking.

Some of the work I had on TDS and other on PS.org. I started out trying to help Nylyon clear his cooler after he clogged a brand new one, and then did my own. But I was trying to flush the system every way possible. In that first picture that you are referencing I was reverse flushing by going reverse into the heater core, but coming out at the wye, that's why there are those two hoes installed. Later I just did the heater core by itself, which is the better method, but I no longer had that picture of the connection my the alternator.

I originally had 2 pdf files about the work but I can't find the second one which went through the trials of power flushing. The closest to it was the cooler flushing pdf Karl published that I believe is in our tech file. Some of the details are in his, my handle from that time was also FMTRVT.

Here's is part 1 if it's of any value. The oil cooler in that file was Karl's initial clogged filter with Ford Gold.

And thanks, Mark.
