Hey guys, I have what may seem like a stupid question. I have an 06 Superduty. I bought it with a non-running 6.0. Got that fixed up and running great. Now onto my issue.
I discovered that both inner fenders were gone. Someone probably removed them to access the glow plugs, as it has new ones in it from previous owners mechanic, or hack!!
So I bought 2 new inner fenders. Could someone tell me what holds them in? Should it have bolts with the clip type nuts, or just plastic push pins, or a mix?? I just have a bunch of tabs on the fenders with a hole, no hardware. I think one side has a clip nut on the inside behind the wheel that would take a bolt. Nothing else. Not sure if it all used clips and bolts and they got lost after removal, or if it had plastic push pins and the broke and that lead to not putting the inners back. At this point, I will put in whatever is needed, I just want to get the right stuff the first time. It should be a pretty easy job to install them once I have the hardware.
My friend hacked apart his fender liner after the screws that held it in place snapped off when he tried removing them. He has a new liner but no idea what kind of screw OEM used. I know the screws are the kind that have the washer permanently attached to the head of the screw (probably a name for that style screw). As for the thread pitch and size, no clue. I'd like to know as well.
The bolts for the inner fenders that attach to the front frame assembly are standard 10mm headed body bolts with a wide washer. I do not recall that the inner fenders attach to the wheel opening on fender at all. I looked at my F550 but that didn't help since it had fender flares on it and I couldn't see.
I will tuck one of them up in the fender and see where it should attach. It looks like it will bolt or pin to the lip in the fender around the wheel opening and then a few other locations on the inside. Thanks for the tip on the 10mm headed bolt. The one clip I did see might take a bolt that size.
Small 7mm black screws with washers fixed on go around the wheel well lip.
One big galvanized 8mm head bokt with larger 1.5" washer on frame rail (one in front of axle one behind)
Plastic push pins under radiator support (two I believe)
