Now that the brakes are good. ( knock on rust)
I thought I remove , clean , sand ,paint etc... the inner front fenders.
I removed all the bolts and loosened her up but, shes not moving.
Looking for any ideas.
Do I need to loosen up the outer fender?
Im just working on drivers side, its not so busy over there.
When I did mine, the inners came off last, except for the rad support. I'm not saying you're doing it wrong, just the hard way, and there's always an adventure in that!
Eric
I'm just starting to reinstall my inner fenders (1.5 yrs later) and it was a trick to get them in without scratching my core support or inner fender with nothing on the truck. I can't 100% say that you have to remove the fender to get the inner fenders off but I think it would be close to impossible to remove it with the truck assembled. You only have about 6~8 more bolts to remove if you already have the inner fender bolts removed. Just take off the outer fender and save yourself some headache...
I would also do both fenders at the same time, since your truck will be apart while you do the work.
Since my fenders and wheel wells are loosely bolted in at the moment, I will try to remove it tonight to let you know. If I remeber correctly, I HAD to remove the fender to get the wells out.
Cannot be done. I removed the little bracket in the back of the inner well, all screws removed and the well will not come out. It sits too far over the frame. Sorry guys.
You need to remove the fender first. It attaches at the bottom rear corner, I think there is also a bolt accessable through a hole in the kick panel in the cab (I may be wrong on that one) and along the top of the fender and at the front of the fender at the upper valance. I don't see how you would get the inner fender out without removing the fender first.
Thanks guys,
I couldnt wait till I got home tonite to check for responses.
How big of a chore is it to remove fenders?
If its bolt on I may give it a try. I just had the valve covers painted gold and now I noticed how bad the inner fenders look.
I suppose I could just brush on some black rustoleum............
thanks again , C&R
Took my inner fenders off last week. Mine was a piece of cake. but my fenders were off and the core support came off right before the inner fenders. I sanded them up, patched the rust, sprayed the top side with black rustoleum and sprayed the undersides with undercoating. The undercoating was a nice final touch and now I'm ready to put her back together with her new core support and face lifted inners!
