No GPS...No Sirius XM
No GPS...No Sirius XM
I have a 2010 Navigator. First I noticed the GPS going wonky. Would show my position in water, lakes, Puget Sound etc....but I didn't worry since I knew that wasn't the case. Then the XM radio started flaking out....at first it would lose signal but only when I was driving in a canyon with steep mountains or tall trees blocking the signal. But it kept getting worse to where now XM wont connect at all and the GPS is whacked out.. Went to my local car stereo shop thinking I can get a new in dash with all those bells n whistles but salesman said, "Nope". Told me that Id lose the door chimes, rear DVD, and a whole list of other things since the infotainment system is the heart n soul....so I don't want to do that. Local dealer quoted me 1000 bux plus labor to replace the whole unit....What other options are out there?? I don't mind not having GPS but I really DO like Sirius XM. Was wondering if I got the latest software upgrade for the maps if it would magically bring it all back. (Ive gotten the thing in the mail to upgrade twice) Who else has had this problem? Oh and according to the sales guy, this is a common issue with the infotainment systems all designed to get you frustrated so you'll just go trade it in for new headaches. I like my Navi!!! Really hate to trade it off....its paid for to boot.
Not that there is any connection here, but I'll relate our tale, which may or may not have anything in common...Is your clock working? My wife's 2011 MKX (granted different year/model) was showing the same symptoms plus the clock wouldn't display time. This was the first year for the pathetic "My Lincoln Touch" controls and, in her case the issue was the satellite antenna which, after diagnosis charges and replacement totaled out around $450 give or take. This was our first Lincoln and likely it will be out last. We had more issues with this vehicle than with our last six cars/trucks which were mostly Fords.
Clock works fine. Wondered about the antenna on the roof but radio works fine so I've ruled it out. And just like that...over the weekend the GPS started working. No explanation. And as of today its still working but it could stop just as abruptly as it started. SO it could last for a day, a week or whatever it feels like. I really do like the car. Its quiet and comfy, but not thrilled with the navigation and XM crapping out at random times. Also Ive had issues with the power windows not working. Currently I cant roll down the pass. side window for fear it wont close again. Last time I accidently opened it....it took 30min of jacking off the button to get it closed. Been talking to the wifey about trading it in for a newer F150. Ive driven a couple with the EcoBoost V6 and liked it better than the 5.4L.
Upgrading the maps will not fix the problem your radio is having.
There are companies that do Ford warranty work and they also sell rebuilt/refurbished radios to the public. Or they will rebuild your radio. These radios are matched to your vin number so that every feature will work. They are not cheap but everything will work again.
