Well, after a really tough shakedown yesterday top side creeper works pretty good. Turbo r&r and new up pipes made it worth it, but hard to find good height when putting back together. Reaching all the way to the back of turbo, aligning the pin, etc. still had me unbalanced and really reaching. Might be better with a lifted truck, but the height that I used to remove everything had to be lowered for install. This thing will be great for just about anything else under the hood, aligning the collector pin and getting that v clamp on will always be a pita. Most likely will add a couple of extra holes and a bigger pad area.
One other thing I bought was a Neiko 40447A Rechargeable Work Light. LED, spring tension adj to hood width, puts out great light under hood, and stays out of the way. Can't get good light under the cowl, but can't hardly see back there anyway. Amazon, 80 bucks. (I am not a paid endorser)
The band clamp is a bitch but a good trick for the up-pipe collector is a 31" black rubber bungee cable with one end hooked to the engine hoist point to the left of the turbo outlet, rope it around the back of the collector and hook the other end to the alternator pulley. Then you can jiggle the collector into its slot and there is plenty of tension to hold it there while you get the clamp on.
I have crushed my jewels and jabbed my gut so many times that i'm ordering one right now! the moving blanket and fire blankets just don't cut it. Plus I worry my fat **** is going to break something while rolling around in there.
Well, I got mine. Put it together and the first time I stepped up on it then leaned onto the top. I almost had a heart attack, it dropped just enough to remove the small amount of slack or play in the bolt holes. Cant wait to use it.
