Not sure if I'm doing something wrong but my vacuum pump went out, I had a new OEM and I was able to remove the pulley with the harbor frieght pulley kit. I can not finish seating it though. I'm about 3/16" away from it being seated and the installer just unthreads out of the pump shaft. Super bummed if they came with a pulley I would of been back on the road 3 hours ago.
Any ways my father is a great guy he is driving 2 1/2 hours to bring me an oriely pump that has the pulley installed.
I just wanted to rant wtf ford sell them with a new pulley.
Thank God the brakes did go when they did I had just finished coming down the grape vine, and was able to safely make it to a gas station.
Just a quick note to the words of the wise, any aftermarket Autozone/oreilly pump I have ever had lasted 10 and maybe 15k miles if we were lucky... I have gone through a dozen or more on my trucks and have not paid for one except the first with their lifetime mexico BS warranty. Buy it with a pulley on it if you can new. They are a bich sometimes to remove, and just a waste of time IMO. That's my biggest pain on these trucks...the brakes.
Doesn't the bolt thread INTO the shaft while you're installing the pulley? Not sure I'm following what's going on here.
Yes it does but when trying to crank on the wrenches it would unthread and it stripped the first couple threads out.
I had it seated at a machine shop today and asked what I was doing wrong and he said it sounded like the bearing wasn't doing its job. It may have been user error I just don't know why I could get it so close, but not all the way.

Yeah I try to use OEM parts. I had the pulley seated today and will install it and keep the Orielys as a back up. I think I was very luck the original vacuum pump lasted 22 years.
That is a booster pump for the hydroboost. The vacuum pump is on the passenger fender and runs the AC and heater duct doors.
Sorry, but that is not the case on the OBS 7.3. Our trucks have a vacuum pump (the only vacuum pump) driven off the serpentine belt, and vacuum boosted braking, not hydroboost like the 1999+ SD trucks are.
The only exception to that is in the case of the OBS F-Super Duty (F-450 equivalent) which had hydroboosted braking to meet DOT requirements for that GVWR.
Not sure if you could slip those fasteners on after pulley installed. I guess they should come preinstalled or truck should have come with studs on the accessory bracket.
But that all probably makes too much sense!
No clue if my old pump was original or not. Doubtful. I installed a fresh Alliant after it locked up on me cruising down the freeway. Popped free, no power brakes, and made it back.
That is also one of those 'must do' items on any used 7.3 with no records.

Nope! You can't. Been there and made that mistake once myself. The bolt holes in the pump bracket don't line up with anything on the pulley so there is at least one bolt that has to go through the pump before the pulley is installed. That's why when you buy a new pump with the pulley, it comes with new fasteners.
